A&T to Host Virtual Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creativity in Fall November 11 | Business


EAST GREENSBORO, NC (November 10, 2020) – The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) at North Carolina State Agricultural and Technical University to host a virtual symposium on undergraduate research and creativity Fall, “Transforming Undergraduate Research”, Wednesday, November 11. from noon to 2 p.m.

Medeva Ghee, Executive Director of the Leadership Alliance and Associate Professor in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Brown University, will be the guest speaker.

The symposium will highlight research done by undergraduate A&T students and include a panel discussion featuring their research mentors. Their discussion will focus on transformative efforts for student success through innovations, framed, lab and virtual research experiences, and partnerships with the Leadership Alliance.

The Leadership Alliance is a 32-member consortium dedicated to increasing the participation of under-represented students in competitive doctoral and doctoral training programs and, ultimately, developing leaders and role models in academia, the public sectors and private. A&T joined us in 2016 and is the only member from North Carolina.

Speakers will also discuss opportunities in merchandising and fashion design, inclusive excellence, enhancing STEM education by bringing citizen science into the classroom, computer diversity, the I-Corps program with North Carolina Central University and Winston-Salem State University, and professional identity development.

OUR’s mission is to support and expand opportunities for undergraduates to engage in framed scholarship, original research, or creative endeavor. In line with A & T’s Preeminence 2023 strategic plan, its primary functions are to facilitate undergraduate research projects by matching students with research mentors; supporting faculty mentors in promoting undergraduate research and creative endeavors; and showcasing and celebrating the achievements of research students.
