Huawei and GIKI Jointly Launch Pakistan’s First Undergraduate Artificial Intelligence Program


Huawei Technologies Pakistan Pvt. Ltd. and GIKI (Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Science and Technology) jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch the undergraduate artificial intelligence pilot program in Pakistan.

The program is the first such partnership with corporate universities and is a milestone in an already successful four-year partnership that began with the establishment of the Huawei ICT Academy at GIKI in 2016.

GIKI is one of the most prestigious engineering institutes in Pakistan, renowned for setting a standard of excellence in the field of engineering.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of the Rector GIKI, Mr. Jehangir Bachar, Executive Director, SOPREST and senior member of the Board of Governors of GIKI, Mr. Shakil Durrani, Managing Director of Huawei EBG Pakistan, Mr. Gao Weijie and other respective members of both organizations.

Mr. Bashar and Mr. Durrani appreciated Huawei’s efforts to take the initiative. They said the program has great potential as an industry-university collaboration of this scale is the first of its kind in Pakistan. They encouraged the building of this initiative using cutting edge technologies that could help put Pakistan on the map.

Managing Director of Huawei EBG Pakistan, Mr. Gao Weijie reiterated that Huawei will work hard to ensure the success of the program, continue to contribute to Pakistan’s talent ecosystem and help by bringing the latest technology to the country. The artificial intelligence degree program is expected to launch in August 2020.

Huawei will share its AI research and achievements with GIKI faculty and students to benefit from the latest technology to enhance the value of university education. Huawei and GIKI are looking forward to future cooperation in the fields of intelligent computing and cloud computing and so on after the success of the artificial intelligence study program in Pakistan.

Huawei and the GIK Institute will support regional information and communication technology education, share knowledge and create more opportunities through such programs in Pakistan.
