NEW DELHI: Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Hong Kong is calling for applications for its two popular undergraduate science and engineering programs with a major in artificial intelligence.

Students wishing to apply must meet general, school or program-specific and English admission requirements, the university said. For Indian students, the requirements are “certificates of completion obtained on completion of class 12” in one of the state and national councils. The university said the benchmark score of former students admitted to HKUST was on average “overall average of 85% or more” on exams.

HKUST, in a statement, said: “Although AI is a hot topic, studying a new program solely on new emerging knowledge may not be the most effective for students, as that knowledge should be better integrated into [the] existing system so that students can understand these new technologies in real applications.

Students enrolled in the programs can choose their specialization in physics, computer science, mathematics, civil engineering or ocean science and technology before the start of second year, the university said.

The university also awards scholarships to deserving students. HKUST was ranked # 1 in the Times Higher Education 2020 Young University Rankings and # 27 among world universities in the QS 2021 World University Rankings.
