Wesleyan University of Connecticut is among the first colleges to require COVID-19 booster injections for all students, staff, and faculty who will be on campus in the spring of 2022 as part of the vaccine mandate policy of the university, announced the university.

Wesleyan hosted the first on-campus recall vaccination clinic this week and will also be holding recall clinics on December 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for students who cannot receive a booster at their local pharmacy. Nonetheless, the university pointed out that boosters are generally available at most drugstores, reports Erudera.com.

“More importantly, since we have the protection of vaccinations, the cases of COVID-19 that we have had so far have been asymptomatic or mild. Vaccine booster injections are now available and they offer an important additional layer of protection ”, the university noted.

According to a statement from Wesleyan University President Michael Roth, the vast majority of students, faculty and staff are now eligible for their recall. The president said they should upload a copy of their updated vaccination card to the university’s portal, indicating the date they received the booster before January 14, 2022.

President Michael Roth has said there is no good reason to hesitate to receive a reminder.

“Some people don’t like to be the first. But in this case, being the first for public health does not seem to be a particularly risky place ”, Roth told National Public Radio.

In his statement posted to the university’s website, Roth wrote that with a fully vaccinated campus and no transmission in classrooms, the semester should start normally.

This week, Wesleyan University recorded 14 new positive cases out of a total of 2,971 tests, a lower number of positive cases than before the Thanksgiving break.

Duke University and Rutgers University have also encouraged their students to receive reminders, but have not yet required them to do so.

In 2021, more than 1,000 colleges and universities across the United States have required COVID-19 vaccines for students and employees. According to Erudera University Vaccine Requirements Checker, some of the US universities requiring COVID-19 vaccination are:

  • Yale University
  • duke university
  • Harvard University
  • Princeton University
  • Stanford University
  • Rutgers University
  • Ohio University

Due to an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases among undergraduates, Princeton University has announced stricter COVID-19 testing rules for those returning after the Thanksgiving holiday. The university will require students to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival on campus, and students will continue to wear masks until they receive negative test results.
