Mindy Yadev — who is pursuing a double major in biology and health promotion and health equity — is among 107 UW-Madison undergraduates who received Hilldale undergraduate/faculty research scholarships at the award ceremony Chancellor’s Undergraduate Awards 2022.
These scholarships support undergraduate research done in collaboration with a faculty or staff member. To help offset research costs, the student receives $3,000 and the faculty or staff member $1,000. This year’s winners undertake research in areas ranging from biochemistry and neurobiology to psychology and music.
Yadev’s project is titled “Characterization of CRISPR-Cas9-mediated ALAS1 knockout brown adipocytes to determine the impact of endogenous heme on adipocyte function”. His faculty advisor is Andrea Galmozzi, an assistant professor in the division of endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism in the department of medicine at the UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.
The Health Promotion and Health Equity degree program is a collaborative effort between the departments of Counseling Psychology, Kinesiology, Rehabilitation Psychology, and Special Education at the School of education, and is housed in the Department of Kinesiology. The degree is broadly designed to provide students with the skills and perspectives needed to facilitate healthy practices at individual and societal levels.
